Francesco Locatello receives the German Pattern Recognition Award 2026

We are delighted to share that Professor Francesco Locatello received on September 23rd 2026 the German Pattern Recognition Award 2026.

The German Pattern Recognition Award, presented annually by the German Association for Pattern Recognition (DAGM), recognizes outstanding, internationally visible research in pattern recognition, computer vision, and machine learning. The award is intended to promote exceptional early-career researchers whose work has made significant contributions to the field.

About Francesco Locatello

Francesco Locatello is a tenure-track assistant professor at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) and an AI resident at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. Before, he was a senior applied scientist at Amazon Web Services, leading the Causal Representation Learning team. He received his PhD from ETH Zürich, for which he was awarded the ETH medal. His research received several awards, including the ICML 2019 Best Paper award, the Hector Foundation award for outstanding achievements in machine learning from the Heidelberg Academy of Science in 2023, the Google Research Scholar Award in 2024 and the ERC Starting Grant in 2026. He is also an ELLIS Scholar in the program on Interactive Learning and Interventional Representations.
